The Details:
It's 53 at the house. The sunrise was at 7:14. I'll be driving down to Paul this morning. I've got the boy'z coming 2-4 to play music.
The Practice:
I started in The Driveway with a brief warm up using the first few of The 10
Next I did a Round of Taiji (left side) reciting the Taiji Classics during Part I. I was focused on consistency.
After driving to Hatfield I met Read in Paul's driveway and we went inside to meet with Paul.
Paul immediately stood up and was ready to start training.
We did:
- We started with push and pull while standing
- We segued to single are push hands
- Next we did hand exercises; open/close and palm up/palm down and fingers touching for proprioception.
- Next we did side stepping; ala Wave Hands Like Clouds
- Next we did several seated exercises. I heard from Jean that the fall that Paul had last week an x-ray showed a hairline fracture to his right hip. He doesn't need an operation, but because the hip is weight bearing he is supposed to limit weight bearing.
- Next we walked with Paul using a walker. I noticed he was challenged by turning around and negotiating the walker when he attempted to sit down in a chair.
- Next while he was seated we worked on ankle with toe and heel lifts.
- Next we did knee lifts.
It's all about functional exercise for all of us as we age. As time goes on daily exercise is almost entirely about being able to continue to function as we always did in daily life.
Once you lose your mobility it's the beginning of the end.
Keep moving!!
Don't let what you can't do interfere with what you can do.
There's only:
Doing
and
Not Doing
