Anyo Isa 3rd Section with Sifu J. R. Roy

Sifu J. R. Roy slowly demonstrates the first 3 Sections of

Anyo Isa (Modern Arnis empty hand form I)

This video lesson focuses on the 3rd Section of the form.

*Sifu reviews some principles used in Triangle Stepping while turning 180 degrees from R or L bow stance to R or L bow stance.

This stance work is essential to the system and will be used extensively throughout the 8 Anyo and the 4 Cane Anyo's as well. It's also a common denominator that is found in many martial arts systems, including the American Karate System that is taught at The Studio.

Anyo Isa 2nd section with Sifu J. R. Roy

Sifu J. R. Roy slowly demonstrates the first two sections of:
Anyo Isa (Modern Arnis empty hand form II)

The first two sections of Anyo Isa are really important, for both beginners and advanced Arnis practitioners alike.
*Section one contains Trapping Hands left and right and is essential to the style.
*Section two contains the all important progressive step to an L Stance.

*Progressive stepping is a common denominator that is found in many different martial arts styles. Suffice it to say it's very important!

I'd suggest to practice Trapping Hands and Progressive Stepping on both sides with and without a partner.

Anyo Isa 1st Section with Sifu J. R. Roy

Sifu J. R. Roy slowly demonstrates
the 1st Section of Modern Arnis
Anyo Isa (empty hand form I)

Sifu briefly explains the beginning stance work and some training principles with a few variations on the Trapping Hands theme.
*Note: In the art of Modern Arnis, most applications of techniques from the Anyo (forms) can be progressed and refined from a strike to a lock, to a throw, with or without a weapon (blunt or sharp).

However, it's imperative to learn the original first in order to fully understand the variations and translations.

Modern Arnis Anyo Dalawa 2nd Section

Modern Arnis
- Anyo Dalawa -
(Empty Hand Form II)
- Second Section -

Sifu J. R. Roy explains and slowly demonstrates the stance work and hand techniques from the Second Section of the Form.

Sifu shows it from a couple different angles and also as a stand alone drill.

This kind of pivoting stance work is important because it is found in many different applications in a number of styles of martial arts. It is a Common Denominator across many different martial arts systems.

Worthy of the effort to acquire!

Opposing Movement as applied to the spine in Standing Meditation with Sifu J. R. Roy

This is the first lesson on applying the concept/principle of Opposing Movement to the spine.

THE best place (IMHO) to start this training is in Standing Meditation (I Ch'uan).
*The basic Wuji position with you arms down by your side.
*Focus on the plumb alignment of your spine.
*Release any tension down, especially in the lower spine,
*Encourage a lifting feeling on the top of you head.
*Cultivate an opening of your spine
*Vertebrae float on each other

Head up (light)
Tailbone down (heavy)

Opposing Movement =
Spine ever so slightly stretched
Vertebrae will 'float' on each other!

Opposing Movement with Sifu J. R. Roy

A short video lesson on the concept/principle of Opposing Movement. This principle is applied in most Qigong and Internal Martial Arts and is excellent for your health and the longevity of your joints. Is best to be practiced prophylactically, but when practiced daily, the principle can be used to rehabilitate an injured joint. The practice is subtle and takes consecutive days to yield results. Regularity and perseverance is essential in order to get extraordinary results for your health or martial skill.

Happy April 1st 2022!

Hope this note finds you well enjoying the day and your practice(s).....
